This Privacy Policy explains how Tidal Map LLC ("Tidal Map," "we," "us") collects, uses, and shares information when you use the Tidal Map mobile and web applications and related services (the "Service"). By using the Service you agree to this Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
If you create an account, we collect your email address and, optionally, a display name. If you sign in with Google or Apple, we receive a basic identifier and email from that provider (Sign in with Apple may relay a private, anonymized email). Authentication is handled by Google Firebase Authentication.
When you use location features (locate-me, trip recording, "best available data" for your current spot), we access your device's precise GPS location. Location is processed on-device to center the map and surface nearby conditions. Location is only stored when you choose to record and save a trip; saved trip tracks may be synced to your account so they appear across your devices. We do not use your location for advertising and we do not sell it.
Waypoints, trips, notes, saved stations, and preferences you create are stored locally on your device and, if you are signed in, synced to our servers so they are available across your devices. This content belongs to you.
We collect anonymous usage events (features used, screens viewed, session duration) and basic device/diagnostic information to operate and improve the Service. Analytics include your IP address for coarse geographic aggregation and abuse prevention but are not linked to your identity. With your action, the app can upload a diagnostic log bundle to help us troubleshoot a problem you report.
If you subscribe, payment is processed by Stripe (web) or Apple (in-app purchase on iOS). We do not receive or store your full payment card details; we receive a subscription status/identifier to grant entitlements.
We do not sell your personal information. We share information only with service providers that operate the Service on our behalf, and only as needed:
We may share anonymous, aggregated statistics that cannot identify you. If you tap a product recommendation, the click (not your identity) may be shared with the affiliated shop for conversion tracking. We may disclose information if required by law or to protect rights, safety, and the integrity of the Service.
We retain account information and synced content for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account (see below), we delete or anonymize your personal information promptly. Aggregated, non-identifying analytics may be retained.
To exercise any right, contact support@tidalmap.com.
We use industry-standard measures (encrypted transport, Firebase security rules that scope each user's private data to their authenticated account, and access controls) to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.
The Service is operated from the United States and your information is processed and stored there. If you use the Service from outside the U.S., you consent to that transfer and processing.
We may update this Policy from time to time. We will revise the "Last updated" date above and, for material changes, provide notice through the app or by email. Continued use after an update constitutes acceptance.
